When I had my Accord I used to get shocks, and I had leather seats. Didnt happen all the time, but when I did get them it did freakin hurt. That is when I started touching the side of the car before I pump my gas, and I still do it. I heard that the cell phone causing the fires at gas stations was a myth, and it is actually you getting a shock from your car while pumping your gas.

I actually heard about that danger about pumping gas when you have static electricity on you. I'll have to be careful now.

Two people have said they have leather seats and it happens to them, so I don't know if static electricity from your cloth seats is plausible.

the only thing would say is make sure you shock your door or something before you start pumping gas..

Ground yourself before getting out of the car.

Also, the cell/static thing and pumping gas is BS. As long as you're not shuffling your feet on some carpet and wearing a wool sweater while pumping your gas and decide to touch something metal, you're fine. Your filler neck and the nozzle on the pump are made of non conductive metal. Think about it.

Yeah it's pretty hard to blow up a gas station, my dad gets out of his running truck, while smoking and talking on the phone and pumps gas. He hasn't blown up yet.

And as for the shocks it happens to me all the time now that it's winter. Just touch the frame with your forearm before you get all the way out. and be ready for it too. it lessens the punch.

haha this is a funny thread. But I also get shocked every time I get out of my car and mine is leather, so I feel your pain. Also, my girlfriend says her hair gets static charged every time she rides in my car, and she's right.

I would think you are getting shocked due to the dryer air form the cold weather. dry air causes more static electricity especialy when your clothes rub on you seats getting in and out of the vehicle causing you to get shocked.

but hey thats just a guess, I could be wrong.

you re correct this should explain its

i would just put on some gloves before i drive my car, " NO love no GLove"

ESD is common for a lot of things with human interaction. Just put on some lotion, the combination of Dry skin, cloth seats and dry air could produce a pretty good zap. The lotion trick seems to work though.
