Okay so my friend wants to remove the powersteering on his 2000 V6 Coupe because he "thinks" he will get horsepower from it and he says it will quote:

"give me so much more room in the engine bay and you can like feel each bump in the road it's so sick dude."

How do I keep him from screwing up his car like this? What are his ACTUAL gains/drawbacks if he goes through with this? (I know he could just as easily reinstall the powersteering I'm just saying how do I keep him from wasting his time removing the pump and reinstalling it)

He is also going to remove his AC compressor. Will he reap any gains from this either? I heard maybe some HP but almost nothing.

ALSO may I emphasize the only reason he is doing these things is for horsepower. So if there are no HP gains, he has no reason to do it.

I guess I just don't understand it. I'm pretty sure they call it "bolt on" for a reason. Not "remove to see minimal gains if any."

Help me out guys I need to gather some facts before this weekend when he does it.

as a friend you should do either of the following:

state your opinion on the matter

or

say **** it and let him do it cause its his car and if he wants to **** it up, let him

or

be a friend and help him dispite your opinion on the matter

you know he already posted a thread on doing it? :jae:

there will be minimal HP gains...the PS removal will suck until you get up to speed...a/c is only used like 5 times a year in wisconsin unless the ladies want the windows up...

for a daily driver...its just...eh. unless something expensive is broken, i'll take my comforts, thx.

Haha sorry I didn't even notice. I thought he was going to do this just on his own without opinions.

Well I need a way to tell him "this is why you shouldn't do this" because I'm not going to be there when he's whining for me to help him reinstall it lol

hp gains for both: 1-3hp max

cons, harded parking lot driving, no a/c, diminished resale if removed completly

pros, aint that hard to turn the wheel, frees up some room and takes stress off engine at idle, easy to put back on

i dont think i can explain it any better

FYI, i guess you can thank me for this idea. he has been pm'ing me about this project

well, i guess you could let him make his own mistakes. give your viewpoint, make it clear, and its his option to do with it what he pleases. also be clear that you wont help with the shenanigans :lawl:

true. I just don't see why he is trying to do this for a car that isn't meant for it. To add power, you ADD things. Not take away luxury that you will eventually want later.

Lets also remember this is the guy who wanted to remove all his seats except the driver one too for the "lighter weight" when they only weigh like 20 pounds.

lol...stripping the interior is for ricers :lawl: unless you're going all in or are using significantly lighter seats, theres no real point.
