Fuel Pump Replacement? What else might it be?

Haven't seen the DIY on this, and I am starting to think it's because it's a plug and play situation.
I have a 2001 Accord EX that has symptoms of a bad pump and plan on replacing it before it totally gives out.
Is this correct, just take the old one out and install the new one?
(Using a new filter too of course)
Can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Fuel Pump Replacement?

Open trunk, lift carpet, unbolt cover, unplug lines, pull out, replace, install reverse of removal.

Cool thanks.
I may pull one from a 96 just to see if it fixes the problem before buying a new one.

Honda Pumps hardly EVER fail. Yours would be the first Ive heard of, Unless there is a bunch of sh!t in your tank.

Re: Fuel Pump Replacement?

The car bogs down occasionally when accelerating (Like it's not getting a constant flow of fuel).
The car idles fine, but when in gear and going it will sometimes chug.
The Main Relay is fine, the wiring is good, spark plugs/dist. and wires are good.
I had a car a few years ago that did the same thing until it gave out and worked perfectly after a fuel pump change.
Any suggestions as to what it might be other than the pump (or filter)?

i just did mine like 5 mins ago lmao, pretty easy took me like 15 mins.. theres 3 screws that hold the metal cover and a plug, then underneath that cover there are like six 8mm bolts.. once you pull out the whole thing there are 2 clamps at each end of the hose that goes right onto the fuel pump and then there is one more plug and its out. Be careful not to lose the mini sized clip that holds the filter in place.

Try not to inhale the fumes too much, keep the car well ventilated. If your tank was dirty like mine, try to clean the surface area as much as you can before you start so no dirt or debris falls in. Get a new gasket for the pump.

If you think it's just the filter, just swap the filter assembly.

1) Remove fabric trunk liner.

2) Remove screws from round fuel pump cover.

3) Use an 8mm socket to remove all bolts that are holding the fuel pump unit down. There may be 10 or 11 of them.

4) Carefully disconnect the electrical plug, and fuel lines and pull unit out.

5) Disconnect the actual cylindrical metal pump unit from the pump assembly and replace with the new one just like you took the old one off.

6) Repeat steps 1-4 in reverse order.

7) Go relax or do something fun to your girl.
