Re: Going for a re-tune.... (updated 7/30/12 -- Dyno vid & info on Page 38)

if its anything like my exedy breaking 400 would still be cool. the one in my car is rated for 190ft/lbs and I make 240ft/lbs and its just now starting to slip after 3 years of the car being n/a and about a year and a half boosted I'm curious about the clutch too as I'll be upgrading before I retune to try and break 300 on this setup.

Devin, I had a slow day at work, so I decided to plot the torque on your dyno chart. Assuming by your speed they did a 3rd gear pull, it seems to fall right on target with a ~6250 redline. (You're still using the stock cam?? That would be my very next upgrade next to the FMIC. I don't know how efficient that SC34 turbo is around your peak boost level since Precision doesn't provide compressor maps, BOOOO!! I'm also curious why the turbo doesn't spool faster, but that may have something to do with your lower compression.) I zoomed in to 300% when plotting and tried to draw the dots within -/+2 accuracy. Obviously its not scaled as well as the dyno could do, but it's close enough for government work (pun intended). Cheers. :beer2:

EDIT: Also meant to ask where your VTEC engagement point is. That's not it there at 3300rpm, is it?

I was actually thinking the L series might be better suited to your needs. He rates his in-house stuff in whp.

"Dyno tested to efficiently flow well up to 550whp."
Jason - That L series is practically taller than all of precision's intercoolers, but thinner and not as long. It seems like it definitely has the dimensions that will be needed for the airflow, and the price is what is selling me on it, know anybody that has used them before with high powere?

How do you like your clutch? I've been debating between the XTG6 which is rated way more than I'll ever need, or the XTSD like you have that's only rated to 385ft/lbs. I really want the smooth engagement of the full disc, but if I hit my 400whp mark, it'll likely be quite a bit more torque at the flywheel than the SD is rated for. I really wish we could see your torque numbers. How would you rate the XTSD for your setup? If you could go back, would you buy the same clutch?

I was debating on the two for the longest time as well, when I was planning on upgradinge. Of course I ended up with the SD and not the G6, due to drivability. But I absolutely Love the SD, nice and short engagement, (although not so bad as like a 4 puck/6 puck/twin disc like an on/off switch), it still has some smooth engagement as a less intense clutch but the strength of a xtreme pressure plate.

The clutch actually is holding up just as good as it does the day I bought it for sure. The down side to these heavy duty/extreme clutches are the slave cylinders and master cylinders are not made to handle the pressure, and since there are no "upgrades" for them per say, we just have to keep replacing them every year or two..... But overall a fantastic clutch. I'm sure i'll be upgrading to heavier duty clutch here soon for sure.

If I was to do it over, definitely would buy the same clutch no doubt. If I knew i'd be where i'm at know back then, I would of went more xtreme of a clutch so I wouldn't need to upgrade soon though, but who would've guessed?

Jason -
- You are correct on the 3rd gear as it is the closed 1:1 gear on our cars and that is typically what I ask for.
- Still using the stock cam, which is one of the next upgrades on the list.
- 7200 redline is actually where it is at, but there's no need to go that high, due to loss of the power band.....
- I'm not too sure on the specs on the sc34 or compression maps either
- Vtec engages at 3300 you are correct.

That's probably pretty accurate, as that's similar to what the torque lines from the last tune that was done on the car. Well done! I appreciate it a ton! you rock!

On another note, the place I bought the battery relocation items are taking forever to get me the negative battery clamp, so i'm waiting on that and will get everything rolling in the right direction.

Jason - if you could let me know if anyone has experience with some of his intercoolers, and proven numbers that would help me a ton!

The other question I have is will something that tall fit even? obviously modifying the bumper support is a must, but do you know if there is enough height clearance?

It will fit, but like you said cutting the support is a must, and also the bumper cover to open that window for air-flow to the full face of the core.

Lovin the progress! Sorry I haven't really been on here posting much - work has been killing me, but I have been following the progress as it comes!

I hear you Nikita, that's why I haven't made any progress either, been swamped with work, house hunting :naughty:, and everything in-between... i'm stupid busy with everything else right now as well and it doesn't help that parts aren't getting to me sooner....

Exactly, a lot of modifications would be needed, I suppose there's always a way to make them fit no matter what, ha-ha.

I was thinking about doing the intake for the turbo through the headlight high beam and just eliminate (1) high beam. That way it will get the best and most freshest air possible, thoughts? I couldn't keep it a secret anymore....

I believe someone did that not too long ago in one of his headlights for just track use, it may have been someone else though.. I remember seeing a riveted area on the driver side high beam for the intake, I believe it must have been for a V6. It was done very clean, but I can't remember exactly who that was for the life of me. Great idea if done well.

Last piece is finally on it's way this/next week! They shipped me the wrong piece originally.

I'll measure my current oil pan turbo oil drain bung and mark it on my new pan to get it welded by a friend next week so I can re-do the oil lines.

Also start battery relocation next week hopefully as well.

Then start an intake design and fabrication/new intercooler.

Finally getting closer.

Recieved the last piece I needed and ready to get started! Hopefully have something soon!

I've been pre-occupied with purchasing of a house (with a 3 stall garage :ohsnap:) so closing/moving in around Feb/March of next year, which will make it MUCH easier to do werk!
