Re: Going for a re-tune....

Thanks Alex!

Tonight, i'll go back and replace the rusted out hood hinge, and double check all sensors and misc items are working, and drive it to the apartment, so I can drive it to work tomorrow, and then to the tune.

I'm getting pretty excited! Hopefully all goes well.

Well, Got the hood hinge repaired, and plugged in to the car to make sure everything is reading correctly, all sensors etc. and we are good to go!

Hopefully tomorrow this time i'll have some good news.... (fingers crossed).

Re: Going for a re-tune....

Well good news and bad news..... ha-ha.

Good news - It runs great, driveability is greatly improved.

Bad news - The stock fuel pump in the tank is starving the Bosch 044 in line fuel pump and at higher RPM's the fuel pressure drops about 10psi or so and starving the engine.

I have on order a deatschwerks in tank fuel pump and re-wire kit, and I will be cutting the hard line and adapting it to a stainless steel line with AN fittings and run it directly into a AEM fuel rail and Pressure Regulator for better and less restricted flow. Along with removing the EGR and blocking it off due to it being un-needed.

Overall a good thing that I found this out now. hands down. Plus I have the in for the shop I am working with, so got a killer deal and now I don't have to f*** with any fuel lines or headaches of a leak, and if there is one it's on their hands.

It sounds incredibly mean on the dyno, been a while since i've been outside the car and heard it run under boost, and almost wet myself.

Parts should be in within a few days and I'm guessing at the latest early next week, they will put everything in, and throw it on the dyno the same day. VERY VERY Close!

FYI I was told basically what I should expect out of this setup and i'm not spilling until the evening of. because I can..... :D

Daaaang... I wished I had thought of that ahead of time. Can't believe the stock one is even in there bro! Isn't the Bosch plenty enough if you can fabricate a good pickup in the tank??

The stock one is in there, never thought of changing it out.... never thought of me needing a second one to feed the inline one... ha. Without a good in tank pump, the in line is useless basically unless it is made into a sump pump. I have to get the fuel to the second pump or directly to the fuel rail (in my case)

So if anyone needs an inline bosch 044 I guess mine might be up for sale....

Why sell the inline one? Why not just upgrade the in tank one and utilize both? Glad to hear you're so close man!

Re: Going for a re-tune.... (updated 5/16/12)

Thanks Nikita! Basically if I utilized both, it is SUPER overkill on the fuel and no need for it. I may keep it and use it at a later date in case I go for more down the road (which I will).... The best part is no modification is necessary. If you go larger than you start getting into a seperate surge tank, braided lines and AN fittings, which can get costly quick.

The good news is, that if I do go that route down the road it won't be hard, a few additional fittings and a long braided line and i'm good to go which is a relief (due to the other limiting factor down the road is the fuel line size and my injector sizes). That, and i'll be able to clean up the fuel area at the top for a cleaner look as well, which is one item on my long LONG list of things to do.

The DeatschWerks 300+ in tank fuel pump will outflow the walbro255 anyday by a substantial amount. So much so that it needs to be wired directly to the battery utilizing a 12g wire, seperate ground and switch. So there is really no need for anything else.
Here is the flow chart for the pump i'm going to be using and you can see the difference:

AFAccord - yeah I didn't think about that either, I always thought it acted as a suction as well pulling the fuel from the tank if needed, but apparently not, especially when I saw the fuel gauge drop under higher RPM's and boost.

On top of that, the stock fuel rail does not flow nearly as well as it should. The fuel enters between cylinder 1/2 and has to feed cylinder 4 and retrack all the way back near cylinder 1 and exit via the fuel pressure regulator. Works great for stock, but not anywhere near where it needs to be when boosted.

With the AEM (or similar) fuel rail, you get the fuel to come in directly at the end of cylinder 4, and exit near the FPR at the other end at cylinder 1. This will allow for not only better fuel flow through all cylinders but better pressure regulation also.

Hard to explain but learned a heck of a lot of info about fuel, which I never necessarily thought there was a need to look into or needed to. Apparantly that was a mistake.

Make sure you still have a pulsation damper on the fuel rail feed side.

Everything is looking good my friend. Excited to see what this baby puts down :D
