Yeah thats too much money for me at the moment. There is just too much other stuff i need to do to the car still. Needs repainted, clear coat flaking off. Basically everything is stock except for head unit and JVT Racing header. Plus it is an automatic, so i figure why bother. Maybe if i buy a second 6th gen in future i can really do something with it. I would love to see pictures of your car. mine is a 99 black sedan

I'm going through the same mess. Mechanics told me I have low compression on all cylinders (90 on 1 and 3, 120 on 2 and 4) and I'd be better off buying a new car! I read through this thread and if I can get a long block for 300-500 in decent condition, I'd rather do that than a 5 year car loan. But now I'm thinking H22...lol. Problem is, I like having AC from time to time. Please post the results of your work!

Honestly you are just better off buying a used Honda engine imported from Japan. There are a ton of companies that sell these engines. Check out Nagona Usa. Free shipping too.

I went the wrong route. Im going to end up paying more bye buying this used block and having it rebuilt.

How much is it costing you to have them do the work?

But either way, if you buy a motor from Japan, Canada or wherever, your still gonna run into replacing some parts no matter what, either way you look at it.
But if you look at it this way, you shouldn't have a single problem with this motor for several hundred thousand miles besides general maintenance.

Plus if you went with a swap, you'd spend more time and $ making it work and fabricating/wiring that it'd come out the same way.

I'm sorry if i led in you the wrong direction. That wasn't my intention at all.

Thanks for the advice. I went and bought a used engine from a yard here in CT. It was supposed to have been tested and the mechanic will check it out for me also. I'm having it installed next week... $800 all together. Hope it runs ok... wish me luck. Can't wait to have my baby back!

$800 all together engine and install? You really made out if that's the case. I am paying $300 for s shortblock, and probably another $450-500 to have it rebuilt (dissassembled, honed, new piston rings, rear seal, oil pan gasket, water pump, and whatever else...seals/gaskets needed to be replaced. Them im buying new honda timing belt and balance shaft belts, koyo tensioner pulleys. Not sure how much install will be. Might be a lil more since i have to marry my existing, installed cylinder head onto new block, and switch everything over.

Honestly that's not bad at all especially for having it done right. Especially versus a swap, that's right where it should be. This way you don't have to screw around with anything involved in a swap though....

OK, you're doing it right. I'm just getting a used, "tested" engine put in and hoping for the best. The mechanic is going to replace all the outer parts (timing belt, etc) but not the internals. I just want it to last me for at least another year. And yes it's $800 all together. That's because my mechanic is a one legged backyard pro. Calls himself the mechanic on wheels...lol. I watched him move my car the other day... yes its a stick!
