chrome polish/polishing compound & elbow grease for stained headers. Honda spray polish/cleaner for unstained. Follow with brake cleaner & a CLEAN rag to prevent new stains.

Use wheel acid/aluminum wheel cleaner for stained/corroded engine blocks. Let it sit for a few minutes & pressure wash off.

Honestly, if you arn't spraying down your engine, i'd only worry about your air filter if it's exposed (like an intake). If you are hand cleaning, you don't need to worry, or even using a little bit of water. Although, you can never be too save on the contrary.

Everything on your engine should be water tight to a standard garden hose. Don't be blasting at anything electrical with a pressure washer.

If your spark plug wires don't seal, or the dizzy cap doesn't seal, then you may end up with a non running or misfiring car. An air compressor will take care of that. I don't cover anything, I figure it's a good way to make sure the ignition system is in good working order.

I'm planning on powder coating my valve cover like this one and doing my OEM 15" aluminum rims same color, but how did you get the header cover so polished? and Does it eventually rust?

I was going to ask the same question. I was thinking of painting the header cover the same color as the valve cover (once I get there) but I'm really liking the polished look...

The best way i've found to keep my engine clean is to just spray a whole can of tire foam on it and let it sit for an hour. Clean most of it off by hand to minimize using water, then rinse lightly. Takes about 20 min of work and it will look brand new everytime. Plus, it seems to stay clean alot longer. Everytime i've bought a car, i've done this and my engine bay looked absolutely new. You can check my members rides for results.

Wait... now does the tire foam clean off all the grease and everything? Also, what do you mean clean it by hand... just with a rag or something? And do you just spray the tire foam everywhere in the bay, or just directly on the engine?
