Re: A/C compressor and P/S question

Make sure you loop the hydrolic lines going to your steering rack.

Re: A/C compressor and P/S question

for what to work? or do you mean for it not to work? ... well if your taking out the p/s you should do it the right way and remove the reservoir and the hoses ... plug up the hard lines [with the type of caps usually used on breathers/vacuum lines/nipples] that can't be removed so they don't get dirt inside in case you ever want to put the p/s back on ... i've never done it myself, can anyone chime in on anything i might have missed?

Power Steering finally removed

Oh the power steering fluid reservoir? I need to siphon that fluid out first and then unplug the hard lines and hydraulic lines. I need to post some pictures...

Re: A/C compressor and P/S question

Ok so I have a few pictures so you guys see what I'm talking about. this is just for the sake of understanding. Eventually I'd like to post this as a DIY.

---

So here's my engine compartment (Cover removed for painting)

Enginecompartmentupdated.jpg

Looking at the engine from the passenger side across, there is the P/S pump and belt.

Next is the P/S pump up close. Apparently theres a swing bolt underneath the pump to remove the belt, though I don't see it here. Wouldn't I have to cut the belt to get it out anyway since it sits behind another belt??

powersteeringcomponent8.jpg

Now for the hoses :) . There's two hoses, one going to front, through the P/S fluid and down into the bottom end, and the other hose goes from the pump back and down towards the firewall. I see where I have to make sure the fluid doesnt hit the alt. when I remove it.

here's the front hose (the one just underneath and perpendicular to the rather large one):
powersteeringcomponent5.jpg

That front hose goes down towards the radiator I think for re-circulation. Do I need to remove all of that?

powersteeringcompontent4.jpg

Now for the rear hose. This one really confuses me. :eusa_wall:

powersteeringcomponent6.jpg

^After removing the front end hose, then can I remove the P/S pump, and THEN the rear hose and bracket that holds it in place?

powersteeringcomponent3.jpg

compartment2.jpg

^This part is more difficult to imagine, sorry for any odd angles.
-So if you follow the hose to the point just behind the bracket where it curves down into the bottom of the compartment near the firewall, it looks like it hooks up into a splitter into some kind of re-circulation hardline with a green clip that looks like a sensor??? What do I do with this? just unplug them both? It looks like something would leak and/or a code would be set off with the sensor.

If you guys can clear this all up I'd really appreciate it. I just don't want to make any stupid mistakes.

Re: P/S question (UPDATED WITH PICS)

I removed the PS when I had my Accord and ****ing loved it.

listen to the man....... he knows sumthing

all you need to do is connect the 2 main lines. IF you want to remove it permanatly (DO NOT DO IF YOU TEND TO RESELL THE CAR) take an angle grinder to all lines before the axle(where the sensor is). we took the WHOLE ps system on a cb7 when we did a h22 swap, and i dont reccomend it.

Re: P/S question (UPDATED WITH PICS)

Thanks BadgerType. I understand now. So I'll just unplug both the main hydraulic lines, front and back, and clip them together? With the P/S pump and belt removed?

Congratz!

I love the feel of no power steering as well. But I will keep mine on the accord.

Dealing with those fittings for those hydraulic lines is a *****, make sure to leave everything attached so the rack doesn't move on you when your trying to break them loose.

I drove without powersteering for a while and it wasn't bad but I didnt like the non linear feel that I got back when turning seemed like it would get harder then easier again.

the power steering pump also saves the life of the steerin rack fyi... you ill wear out the teeth on the gearing quicker, and they you will hate yourself for like a 2 hp upgrade...

like i said in comptechs 6spd swap thread... give me my a/c and my p/s ill still beat 90% of the cars on the street :hide:
