That was a long weekend. After a few last minute preperations, Matt K (the DSG tuner) and I left for Englishtown NJ for Round 6 of the Redline Time Attack series. We made decent time considering the rain and friday afternoon traffic, and I wish I could say that we arrived without incident. But I'd be lying. We got about 2 miles from the hotel flawlessly. But as I was changing lanes to get over to our exit, we hit a small crack in the road and the snap ring on my front right Koni didn't like what it had to say. It collapsed, and with it the whole right front. Again. Without even 1000miles on the brand new Koni. We limped to the hotel and I pulled the strut out. Bill, one of the owners and Master Fabricator at DSG, assured me it was repairable and he'd take care of it in the morning.
The next morning was wet. Very Wet. I didnt get my car back together until about noon. I managed to get a few laps in in the rain, but the car pushed so much that it wasnt very fun. And then. . . My vTeC-y0 decided to take a ****. Matt and I diaged the problem for the rest of the afternoon. I wasnt going to run the car with no vtec, its a dog without it. And its not good to rev the motor out with no load on the lost motion assemblies in the head, super lame.
Sunday morning was beautiful. Sunny and dry. Matt and I continued to work on the engine to get her back up-to-snuff. As it turns out, it was two seperate problems, coming together as the perfect storm. One of the VTEC pins on the OBDII-->OBDI conversion harness broke off. While at the same time I somehow lost continueity on the vtec solenoid to the ecu. So pretty much both VTEC wires to the ecu were busted. Fixed them both, bam, VTeeeeeeeeccccccccc!
Unfortunately, I was unaware that my compition was a 500whp MOPAR and Forced Performance sponsored SRT4, an 08 300whp Civic SI, and a 300whp Mazda Speed3. I was out gunned. But I had fun.
The rear wheel would lift about 6 inches on one hard right hander.
That EVO X is a friend of ours. This was his first track day and he destroyed his compatition by over 5 seconds to bring home a first place trophy. You see him shoot by me in the video.
All these pics were taken by my friend Vincent Soohoo. Here is the rest of the album. He is an excellent photographer.
