the v6's is 10 btdc stock. thats fine. are you knocking? do you have high egts? I would take your car somewhere else if they cant determine what you need.

Ok, so you saying stock timing is fine even up to 10psi? And no, no knocking, no high egts nothing. The car truthfully is running excellent only about 1200 miles on new turbo but so far so good.

This was just a thought from my shop and me and my mechanic said we would research it, I'm sure the shop will get the info on their own. I just like to be informed as well.

if it is running fine I wouldnt bother with it, but do check a couple plugs to see if its running lean, also there is probally a little more performance to gain if the timming was set correctly, worth 4-5 hundred buks? Probally not

Adjustable cam gear(s) will aloow you to retard/advance timing... I think 5* in each direction.

Adjustable cam gears are used to degree cams and really serve no purpose on stock cams. Ignition timing is controlled by the ECU. The MSD BTM is just a hack for the stock ECU just like the APEXI piggyback products. In order to properly run a turbo set up, the ECU must be programed to know how much fuel and ignition advance to apply based on engine load and RPM. You can do this by getting an AEM ECU and going to a shop that has a dyno and knows how to tune.

Tuning IMO is one of the most overlooked aspects of boosting a car. Do as much upgrading to the motor as you want, but so long as there is no way to control the motor what good is it?

Car is running good. It's not running lean at all, it's actually tuned to run rich and it is which is good. I'm tuning with VAFC and an Innovative Motorsports Wideband.

I think that even if the car doesnt NEED the timing at this point, it deffinately will down the road. I also have been reading about detonation and the risk of that has convinced me to order the MSD Boost Timing Master.

Before I order it, however, I wanted to know if anyone knew if their was a significant difference, if any, between a BTM for stock ignition or a BTM for a MSD Igntion?

ya MSD: BTM...about 250$+ depending on where you look.

You need to retard IGNITION timing, not cam timing.

from this last post, all im gonna say is i hope you dont hurt yourself or anyone else around you because sounds like you do not belong in a boosted car.
I really don't want to be an *** but seriously...

Werd.

Yes, tuned. Shop will answer with some research but i figure i might as well too. Just becuase I do not know about Ignition Timing does not mean I dont know about my own car. But I'm not here to spend time BSing. I'm here to get some answers

If it were "tuned" we probably wouldn't be having this discussion. VAFC/SAFC's just throw in more fuel.

For $36 shipped, I'm happy with the ~12whp a cam gear pulled from my stock cam.

cam gear for only 36$? where did you get that. ive always see them for like 150. was that 12hp done with out head work and tuning?

Just thinking about it. Dont piggy backs usually advance the timing. If your using vafc, you should probably just upgrade to the new F/ic.

Look at the bottom-right of AEM's page. Occasionally they offer up discontinued products for cheap from their eBay store. I picked up a 3-bolt cam gear for the F23 for $30 and $6 shipping. They had about 15 to choose from when I purchased mine.

The 12whp was picked up after retarding the cam to pull the power band upwards, and touching up the tuning.

As said before...cam timing and ignition timing are two different things

I could tune timing with my AEM FIC piggyback when I was boosted. VAFC is just a cheap hack
