Yeah it is getting worse day by day, I hope I can get the 15K you guys keep talking about. Now it is slipping at all shift points, except for the initial movement from a dead stop. Oh well hopefully it will last until I can either replace the tranny or the car itself. BTW does anyone know how to rebuild these units cause id rather not take it to a shop.

My transmission has been slipping when in 1st and 2nd gear and my local tranmission shop said i had about a month of driving. But I've been driving over a month now and I do what the earlier dude posted....when you feel it about to slip...let go of the gas and it won't shift hard. Hoping it lasts a bit longer since I'm slowly saving up enough money to get it rebuilt. Brutal that Honda has such a **** transmission in these Accords. :( I don't know if our problems are related but...thats the problem I've been having.

Dang.. does it happen from 1st to 2nd after every stop or just 1st to 2nd after you warm up the car or something?

Mines just happens after I've let the car off for like 3+ hours.

Mine is constant after almost every stop, sometimes it shifts really hard and sometimes it shifts normal. Even though its been doing it for a month now...the transmission fluid is still pink. Hoping it lasts a bit longer.

My Situation:

After my car has been warmed up.. I put it in drive and it'll slip on 1st to 2nd (wouldn't want to shift til like 3.5-4k rpm) but when I feel that's going to happen, I just let go of the gas at like 2.5k.. and when I gas it again, it would shift normally but it would be a decently hard shift (not smooth). It wouldn't slip again but for the first couple shifts it would be kinda hard. I would be good for the rest of the day.

Basically, this will only happen if my car has been sitting for a couple hours or when the engine is cold.

Should I be worried for the short-term? How long do you guys think my tranny will still last for?

I've heard that it could be the TPS (throttle position sensor) as well but I'm not sure if that relates to my issue.
Or should I just try Lucas Transmission Fix oil since this is probably a minor issue, for now at least?

Mine used to start off in 3rd gear, and if i was going past 60mph+ it would drop itself into 1st. I fixed it by replacing the Shift Control solenoid.

It's been several months now, but it's starting to jolt hard when going into 3rd. It slips in 1st & 2nd if I don't let the car warm up, but if I do, it jolts in 3rd, but after driving for awhile the problem goes away.

137xxx miles on my auto v6 :tumbleweed:

I come to accept the transmission problems are common for 6th gen accords. Both on the 4cyl and 6cyl automatics.

I actually bought one of those ATSG's Honda Prelude/Accord Techtran Manual booklet. This book covers automatic transmission M6HA (prelude), BAXA (usdm accord), & MAXA (jdm accord).

This book breaks down the transmission pretty well but could use some more explaination on their terminology.

These transmission have several solenoids. Let's start with the three main shift control solenoids.

I'm using Honda p/n for 98-02 Accord 4D 4cyl

Shift Control Solenoid "A" (SCS "A") - attached to Lock-up Control Solenoid as one unit; closest to engine and next to the starter.
Honda Part 28300-PX4-003
SOLENOID ASSY., LOCK-UP (KEIHIN)
$159-$220

Shift Control Solenoid "B" (SCS "B") - single unit below the Lock-Up solenoid and has a black connector. This one is called the Solenoid Assy A but repair manual calls it SCS "B".
Honda Part 28400-P6H-013
Genuine Honda SOLENOID ASSY. (A) (KEIHIN)
$22-$32

Shift Control Solenoid "C" (SCS "C") - single unit below the SCS "B" and has a brown connector. This one is called the Solenoid Assy B but repair manual calls it SCS "C".
Honda Part 28500-P6H-013
Genuine Honda SOLENOID ASSY. (B) (KEIHIN)
$22-$32

Here is the rundown:
While in 1st Gear -
SCS "A"-OFF; SCS "B"-ON; SCS "C"-ON

Shifting from 1st to 2nd -
SCS "A"-ON; SCS "B"-ON; SCS "C"-ON

While in 2nd Gear -
SCS "A" -ON; SCS "B"-ON; SCS "C"-OFF

It appears that only "A" & "C" change from the start of 1st to the end of 2nd.

The book goes over how to check the operation of these solenoids. But I won't go into that. The D4 lamp in your instrument cluster may blink if there is a problem.

Okay the good stuff, an excerpt from the manual:
Symptom : "Excessive shock or flares on 1-2 upshift or 2-1 downshift"
Possible solutions:
5 - Shift Control solenoid valve "C" defective
9 - 2nd clutch pressure switch defective
G - Foreign material in separator plate orifice
J - Shift valve "C" defective
O - 1st accumulator defective
P - 2nd accumulator defective
e - 1st clutch defective
g - 2nd clutch defective

All that information just to say try the SCS "C". From one Honda parts store it's called the "B". I ordered Honda Part 28500-P6H-013 Genuine Honda SOLENOID ASSY. (B) (KEIHIN) $22-$32. I'll let you know how it works out for me.

Currently 98 Accord 4cyl automatic with 167K miles has occassional "flaring" from 1st to 2nd gear.

Update 10/28/09 Drove the car with the new SCS "C" to Texas from Georgia but it was all highway. So no problem there. But these pass few weeks, slippage/flaring is very common and the strong transmission shifts can be felt from time to time. Problem getting worst with brand new SCS "C", I'm going to try to put the old one back in to see if there is still alot of problems. The 2nd clutch pressure switch is about $47 so I may try that next..... but the idea of the TPS interests me.
