This was to replace a leaking head gasket and to upgrade to ARP studs and prepare for a retune at higher boost.

Still trying to figure out what that plug is.. I can get a side shot for ya if you need Erik. I'll text ya.

I tried looking in my service manual for the plug, but I couldnt find it. It sounds like you should be fine tho....I had to drain mine because I had to scrape some old gasket off and a lot of crap fell into the water ports.

Well thanks for trying anyways Abdi, I also think I'll be fine - I kept the area pretty clean besides for a little bit if microfibers/dust lol. The only thing that I could think of causing a problem is leftover oil in the coolant, that is in the water jacket currently. There isn't a lot, barely noticeable only under a certain hue of light. Just leftovers from the head gasket leak
The coolant there is bright green, but I know there is a tad of oil still in there chemically.. I'm going to fill fresh coolant and drive accross country then when I get there I'm going to do another coolant drain & refill to get the rest of the sh*t out. What do you think about that?

Too tired. I just realized what that plug was.. It goes to the knock sensor I don't have. When I converted to OBD1 I accidentally broke my knock sensor, and then realized that OBD1 doesn't even account for knock so it doesn't use the sensor so I left the plug unplugged! The answer was simple lol.

lol. Who needs a knock sensor when you run premium grade gas with high compression!


Just out of curiosity, what was the initial torque spec for the head studs?

Torque for the ARP's was 80 ft-lbs if using ARP Moly lubricant and 120 ft-lbs if using 30w oil as lubricant. I used the ARP Moly lubricant and torqued them all to 85 ft-lbs.

Still not running due to a stupid delay. A gasket got pinched and now I need to source a new one to replace it. The most hurtful thing is that I traveled 1.5 hours each way on Thursday to obtain it at the only dealership that had it. Too bad I bought only one. Could have at least bought 2 for the $1.90 that they cost, but you know it never works out the way you want it to. Good thing I have my old one, and I'll risk using it until I can get a new one from the dealer. It's the gasket that goes in between the back of the thermostat housing and the intake manifold, kind of a slanted oval piece of sh*t looking thing.

The other reason why I couldn't fire it today even the gasket was ok, is because 2 of the new turbo hardware bolts I bought are too long for the holes going into the log manifold. One would think that all the bolts should be even in length to be accepted by the manifold. One thought wrong. Don't know who the fk cast this manifold, but I feel a ramhorn coming pretty damn soon if this sh*t continues to be a hassle like it has been. I can't use all the old bolts either, because they are too chewed up.

About to hit up the hardware store for proper bolts that will actually fit in length to the stupid manifold holes. Going to use the o-ring old gasket, and hook up the oil PSI gauge with copper/steel braided line instead of the damn nylon that disintegrates.

Then it will be time to start it.

braided lines hurt my pockets haha cus i paid too much for only a line, they cost me 35$ each cus they have to get "custom" made or whatever but it was worth it in the end
