^ What Monty said, pretty easy just spin it to where you need it and tighten 'em back up, a little easier when off the car, but easier to make sure you got it right when on.

I unbolted the cold side housing to change clock it. There's an orange gasket under there, and when I unbolted it and took off the housing the gasket appears stretched at tad. I'm going to have to call Precision and grab a new one from them, hopefully they can get it to me. I don't really understand its purpose either because the surface of the center part and surface of the housing are both machined for perfect fit.

What are your goals this time around? I have a small f23 build going on. F23a1 stock block.Turbonetics 50 trim. Goal of 250whp.

Nikita,

That gasket is somewhat key to make sure it has a perfect seal, and really easy to replace, just call precision and they sell the gasket kits that you would need, and it should be for a decent price too.

Re: ★ Russianred's Turbo Build Thread! ★ *UPDATED 3/4/12* ★

Thanks for the advice bro.

I've decided that I'm just sticking to modifying/tapering the flange. It's going well so far actually. I did the rough trim already and just now bought a flexible DREMEL extension attachment so I can't wait to get out there and finalize this result!

Some people say that modifying the runners going into the collector shorter will make no difference unless the turbo is a twin-scroll. Why would the turbo being a 'twin-scroll' make a difference and how would it make a difference if the merge was modified? Sorry, not too familiar with the concepts of twin-scroll turbos I guess.

If your turbo was a twin scroll, you would want the runners to be divided all the way to the flange in order to keep the exhaust pulses separated so the cylinders fire rhythmically into the turbo.

Here's what a twin scroll manifold flange would look like:

Since your turbo is a single scroll, it just relies on a brute force from all the exhaust gases to drive it. Personally, I don't see any measurable gain by trimming the runners to be even. If the runner was protruding far enough to be in the path of flow from another runner, I would correct it, but I don't think that's the issue in your case.

EDIT: I briefly considered building a divider into my log manifold and running a twin scroll turbine for quicker spool, but the firing order makes this modification useless on a log mani. Depending on the runner order of your mani, you might have the ability to do this, but then you'd be looking at a new turbo as well.

Well, that definitely explains a lot - thanks Jason! :badger:

Tim - I'm wanting to break 400 whp ;). We'll see how close, or far past I get :lawl:.
