Yeah I'll let you know how it goes. I'm determined to get it in there. I don't want to waste the 300 I spent on it. Most likely have to take the motor out again and we'll see how much clearance you actually need and see if whether bashing or cutting the firewall would be better.

all the coolant leaked out due to a loose clamp.. temp gauge shot all the way past the red line.. and i had very low oil.. it took 3 quarts to get it back to normal level. it was running very rough on my way back home.. and was idling like i had some big *** cams or something in there and spitting out hella white smoke. it was also having trouble starting up.

:eusa_doh:

i was gonna take it in tomorrow or on monday.. but i dropped my iphone and shattered the screen. so i will now be using "swap money" to replace this damn phone. super pissed.

Cheapest I see them is ~$280. Whatever you found for $150 +shipping likely wasn't all three mounts.

EDIT: $272 +free shipping

thanks AFaccord.. but maybe i was tripping when i saw that price on them.. who knows.. i also tired adding to your rep.. but it says i need to spread it to others before i can give it you again

but i got a few questions about a few different parts...

-with the mounts.. is there a such thing as getting too stiff of bushings? because the innovative mounts offer three different kinds.. i planned on going with the "Red" - extreme.

-lightened stock flywheels.. i found a guy selling a h22a flywheel that was lightened by 5lbs.. hes only asking 50 obo.. how do you guys feel about using one.. and itll be mated with a stage 3 clutch..

-carbon synchros.. ive been looking into them since im going to be swapping out 5th gear in my h tranny.. im wondering are they really worth the monies? are they really gonna make a difference?

thanks for any help and advice guys.

IMO I wouldn't risk purchasing a used stock flywheel that was reduced in its weight.......might have been damage or warped from usage.....but it doesn't hurt to carefully observe the flywheel and see what was done to reduce its weight

Only as stiff as your teeth can handle. You're not going to be making much torque, why do you think you want the stiffest ones available?

Like what was already said, it's a risky purchase. You don't know how well balanced it is after material was removed, and the pressure plate step could be out of spec. The mounting surface for the pressure plate has to be a certain amount higher than the clutch disc surface in order to properly disengage and clamp the disc. Our flywheels have dowel pins around the pressure plate surface to help align the pressure plate. Those have to be removed when the flywheel is lightened or resurfaced in order for the pressure plate seat to be milled to maintain the correct step. 90% of shops won't go through that trouble when they resurface the flywheel. Better to stay away IMO.

They are good insurance to have. They're not much more than standard OEM brass Synchros, so if you're swapping them out already, go with the carbon ones. If not, you can save yourself some dough and get similar results by scuffing the gear cones with a 120 grit flapper wheel. Just do 2-3-4 alone, NOT 1st or 5th.

question for you guys about oil pumps...

since the block i got is from a blown motor.. and was blown due to oiling problems. the guy i bought it from said the oil pan had a leak which lead to low oil levels. then he raced it with hardly any oil.

but i wanna know if there is a way i can test my oil pump to just make sure it doesnt have any problems going on with it..

so do any of you guys know of a way of testing it once its off the motor?

cause i know you can connect a oil pressure gauge to the oil pump when the motor is still in the car and running.. but idk of any way when the motor is disassembled

Its' easy to check an oil pump, it is mechanical, you simply use a feller gauge, if it is out of spec, replace it.

Testing and Inspection

HOUSING-TO-ROTOR AXIAL CLEARANCE

Check the housing-to-rotor axial clearance on the pump rotor. If the housing-to-rotor axial clearance exceeds the service limit, replace the set of inner and outer rotors and/or the pump housing.
Housing-to-Rotor Axial Clearance
Standard (New): 0.02-0.07 mm (0.001-0.003 inch)
Service Limit: 0.12 mm (0.005 inch)
HOUSING-TO-OUTER ROTOR RADIAL CLEARANCE

Check the housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance. If the housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance exceeds the service limit, replace the set of inner and outer rotors and/or the pump housing.
Housing-to-Outer Rotor Radial Clearance
Standard (New): 0.10-0.19 mm (0.004-0.007 inch)
Service Limit: 0.21 mm (0.008 inch)
INNER-TO-OUTER ROTOR RADIAL CLEARANCE

Check the inner-to-outer rotor radial clearance on the pump rotor. If the inner-to-outer rotor clearance exceeds the service limit, replace the inner and outer rotors.
Inner Rotor-to-Outer Rotor Radial Clearance
Standard (New): 0.02-0.16 mm (0.001-0.006 inch)
Service Limit: 0.20 mm (0.008 inch)

sorry I couldn't get the pics to copy and paste from all data. once apart it's not hard to tell, inner rotor is the inside piece, outer rotor is the oustide and the housing is the housing. either way IMO simple enought to not purchase a new one before a very quick couple of measurements.
