Why not use a smaller TB?

I'd like to get as much air flow going through as I can.

I could go with the Blox TB, which is 76mm, but I'd like to make the larger one work, especially with the 4" CAI.

If it proves to be too much of a challenge, then I haven't wasted much money on the Q45 TB.

I always thought it only did as much good to have the IM inlet size the same size as the piping going into it, since the IM inlet size still determines how much airflow will enter the manifold chamber. Seems like all the air going through the 4” intake would bottleneck at the inlet and disrupt the flow by creating turbulence and maybe not let as much air in. I may very well be wrong on that, but it just seems like having piping much bigger than what the inlet can allow wouldn’t do much good. I assume you’ve done your research on that though, so I hope it works out for you.

There has been much discussion on it on V6P, and the few member's that have done the TB upgrade have gone with the 4" tubing and gotten some good results.

Most of the TB's are already larger than the IM opening, but I haven't read anyone mention any issues with bottlenecking.

that's not always true.

decreasing the size right at the manifold will create increased velocity.

so you can get more air through a given hole by feeding it from a larger pipe with a properly designed spacer.

google "velocity stack"
popular on hot rod carbs back in the day, and still a fixture of most small engine carbs.

Was planning to use a velocity stack with the AEM dry flow filter as well on the CAI.

Yes, something like that.

I was looking in to using the RL intake manifold, but apparently there is too much air restriction internally on it, which sucks, because the inlet size is about 90mm.

Not to mention the price is at least 2-3 times as much as the TL one. :henry:

SO...will be going with the 2011 TL SH-AWD intake manifold with the 2011 Accord intake manifold cover.
