Those of you without power steering...

How much of a difference does it really make on these cars?

To me, a lot. I've tried it a few times. I consider myself to be pretty stout, and while it's never been too much to handle, it's far too uncomfortable for more than a few days at a time. I like the feedback when I'm moving over 40mph, but it's not worth the effort in parking lots and any perceived performance gain is hardly worth mentioning. The pump is just cavitating when you're accelerating in a straight line anyway.

Those without AC. I imagine its something you can very easily get by without. Is this correct?

Apparently this depends on your climate and metabolism. If it never got above 75 degrees, I could make do without it but it wouldn't always be comfortable for me and a passenger (not everyone wants to roll the windows down). If it ever gets above 80 outside, I want my A/C. Again, to me this is a negligible power mod. You may feel the tiniest hesitation at part throttle if you're really attuned to your car, but any real EMS will allow you to automatically cut A/C beyond a set throttle position. Again, not worth it to me.

I kept both of these in my build, so I don't see where anyone here can say I'd be better off without either of them unless they're building a stripped/caged shell of an Accord for time attack.

The same ideas apply to the balance shafts. I would have kept them and accepted the 'parasitic loss' in exchange for the comfort except I wanted fewer parts rotating at 14,000rpm inside my block along with better oil pressure.

Thanks for the replies!

The only reason I ask is not save "power loss", but rather the space in the bay. Always figured deleting PS would be just unnecessary and a pain in the ***. I'll probably end up getting rid of AC, as I'll probably have another car by the time this is all going in anyways, that way it won't be my full time daily and passenger carrier. The only way I'd keep it is if I found an abundance of space while putting it all together. The balance shaft is going out for sure :lawl: In a built car it serves no purpose. Especially with 85 or 95 mounts.

I never used my A/C, I just rolled windows down. Even now, unless its really humid out I barely use it in the subaru.

I've driven cars without power steering, takes some effort but it's not that difficult.

In Ohio it not too bad. It gets really humid here in Maryland. Just gonna have to see if I need the extra room when the time comes.

Received my block tonight. Won't really be able to do anything for awhile do to other financial obligations which will be around until this late spring, early summer. Nothing substantial will be accomplished until then.

Hope you're patient :lawl: gonna be a while.

Through further research I discovered a shocking fact. The Garrett GT35 twin scroll, is not a real twin scroll! It's simple divided at the beginning of the housing. Where a true twin scroll has separate volutes all the way to the turbine. The only one I could find that was true was the BorgWarner 7670, which comes in at a boggling $1700!

If I were to choose a turbo right now, it'd be the 7670. However, if in the next year or so, once I'm ready to buy, Garrett comes out with a true twin scroll in that size range, I'll pick it. Because in my mind it is still Garrett>BorgWarner. Even though they're really both the best companies anyways, I like Garrett more for some reason...

This being said I have changed my original post to not include turbo details, because at this point it is up in the air.. Won't even decide manifold, wastegates or bov. Because if I went BorgWarner EFR it has the wastegate and bov built in. Which would save me money rather than having to buy a bov and 2 wastegates. Which could maybe justify the enormous price..
